A Formal Affair....
It is not too often that Rob and I get to dress up and go out. When the opportunity arises, it is typically an event related to the Air Force. This means that Rob gets to wear his uniform provided by the military and I have to go shopping. I despise shopping! Anyhow, we had the opportunity recently to get dressed up and hang out on the town. Now hanging out on the town does not mean behaving.....
Rob was making sure his Officers were happy by making a drink run for them. Unfortunately, the Red-coated Beer Police confiscated the loot. Rob is explaining to the gents that there is apparently a one drink max policy in effect.
At the end of the night, we stopped for one last photo op....
By the looks of things...we should have had a hand check.

Hockey Update
Want to pass along an update concerning Zach and hockey. While last week didn't go so well for Zach, this week has seen tremendous improvement. Last night was simply amazing watching him try everything. He skated hard! He never came off the ice for a break. Each time he got to go in for the scrimmage he was actually skating towards the puck. There are fresh marks on his stick where he was banging away. When he was sitting waiting his turn to play again he was talking to another boy. When practice was over, he never went over to his mom and was just talking about all the stuff he was doing on the ice. I think Zach is over the fear of playing hockey now and is really going to move forward. He is showing so much enthusiasm for this now.Camera batteries died last night and have to be replaced. We will take care of that this weekend to have more pictures next week.

High-flying Megan

Megan just enjoyed her second night of gymnastics. After stretching and some tumbling on the floor, the group moved over to the uneven bars. Megan learned how to spin both forward and backward on the lower bar. She is also still trying to gain her confidence enough to jump for a bar without looking at the ground. She has to realize that if she looks at the bar when she jumps, she will catch the bar...if she looks at the ground when she jumps she will miss the bar an fall on her "bahookas".

We're 3rd Cousins....

Some of you know that there is a Housley among us. Corrie, daughter of Frank (Buster) and Carol, is attending college in Boulder. Being a hop, skip and a jump away, Corrie decided to come visit me for a day.
Corrie was shocked to learn that she had relatives in Alabama. So we had a lesson on genealogy. Corrie discovered that her dad's dad was my grandmother's brother, making my grandmother her dad's aunt, my mom and her dad cousins, her dad and me 2nd cousins and finally she and I 3rd cousins.
Corrie and I enjoyed lunch with my in-laws, Bob and Becky. After that, we took Kasey for a walk up near the Air Force Academy. Kasey decided she wasn't feeling well after the walk, so Corrie and I got to clean out a nasty gift from Kasey when we got back to the house. Then Corrie got to vacuum out her car.
It is funny how life goes in circles. Though she was too young to remember, but when I lived in Seattle, I would go to her house where her dad would help me change the oil in my jeep. We would wash it, vacuum it, take it for a spin. Having her visit brought back many memories of the years gone by.
When Rob arrived home from Reserves, we all sat down to a great home-cooked meal.

Zach's Hockey pics from first night
Well, I did get some pretty good pictures of Zach during his first hockey practice. When he first stepped onto the ice, he went about 3 feet and fell for the first time. He made it all the way around the rink, falling 4 or 5 more times. Finally, he got his confidence up and was unstoppable.Zach learned that sometimes things are hard, but you still have fun. About half way thru the practice Zach came off the ice. He was crying a bit and complaining that his feet were tired. He was sweating quite a bit as well. After Daddy gave him a pep talk and adjusted some of his clothing and equipment, Zach was back on the ice. He had a little one-on-one time with a coach which I think helped.
Besides me and Daddy, Zach had a great fan group attend. Megan was there to cheer him on as well as Diana and Dennis. Zach's next practice is this coming Monday. By that time, Zach will have had his skates re-sharpened and a new, longer stick.
Daddy's goal for Zach is to continue to play hockey thru his school years and hopefully get a scholarship. We have a few more years before that happens, but if it does, all of his grandparents in the south better learn a bit about the game.

Zach's first Hockey practice
Zach will be starting ice hockey this evening. He is a excited, yet is a bit nervous as well. Rob has had to explain to him that the hockey he sees on t.v. is not what his hockey will be like. Though it is the same game, there will not be all of the hitting and checking.
We will have the camera again tonight and hopefully I will be able to get some good photos of him on the ice.
Stay tuned....

Megan's first gymnastics practice
Megan had her first gymnastics practice last night, April 1. She did very well for her first night. She was in a group of beginners, a group of 5 girls all between the ages of 6 and 8. They started out with stretches, then went to practicing jumps on the trampoline. Following that they did some tumbling and worked on the uneven bars.
Megan had so much fun at her "trial" night, that we have signed her up for an 8 week session. Megan will attend every Monday night for 8 weeks. Though I had the camera with me, the girls were all over the place and it was difficult to get a good shot. So I will try and get some pics of next weeks practice.
